story: as we all know, the winter and summer olympics are a great chance for athletes around the world to share in the fellowship and camaraderie of their various sports disciplines. and with athletes and sports events, it is a given that brands like NIKE want to make sure that all the participants of the olympic games are not only well taken care of, but also entertained and engaged to make the games that much more memorable and exciting.

for the 2016 summer olympics in rio de janeiro, brasil, nike elevated that human experience by creating a whole entire campus called vila vitoria: to host events and mini-competitions, to provide services such as personal clothes' fittings and a nail bar for custom manicures, and to give out free NIKE gear for athletes and so forth.

in order to manage something of that scale and gravity, nike's global events team reached out to event farm to design an attendee management and hosting desktop platform with a mobile event application for guests - also to be used by the nike ambassadors during the the olympics (as well as at the 2016 euro championship in paris, france). the goal was to innovate the guest experience at nike's activations at mega sports events by providing an unparalleled level of service for event attendees.

role: user experience and user interface designer

team: misia clive (creative director) + izabela bulska (user experience designer)

tools used: sketch, paper, pencil, white-board, invision (prototyping), adobe photoshop, and adobe illustrator

process + outcome: we had multiple iterations of designs as each step of the project provided more specific requirements from the nike branding team as well as the nike global team. we initially went for a concierge-type app, where "nike hosts" or nike ambassadors would be available at all times for help in regards to anything vila vitoria-related. after various ideas and features thrown around, such as a messaging system for all visitors and for internal purposes to help manage the campus and all its activities, a leaderboard for the mini-competitions on campus that would update regularly, a event management aspect to reserve spots at certain events like yoga or networking events, and so forth, we finally came to a version of both the app, or nike xenia, and the web platform, or the nike Command center that both the nike global/branding team were happy with and that event farm was proud of delivering.

all in all, it was a great learning experience working with such an impactful and international brand and i could not have been more proud of our team at event farm for what we delivered to nike.
